Location Sharing Status Bar Icon

It can be easy to forget how often and broadly your location is being shared. iOS includes a Location Sharing Icon you can use to see when this data is being sent, and you can even see exactly which apps or options have recently accessed your private data.

TAKE ACTION

To enable the Location Bar Status Icon:

  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services (scroll way down)
  • Status Bar Icon - ON

To check which apps have recently been sent your location:

  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services
  • Look for grey, purple, or outline triangle next to sharing setting
    • Grey means access in last 24 hours
    • Purple means access very recently (not defined by Apple)
    • Hallow means may get access, probably based on geo-fence locations

To check which System Services have recently been sent your location:

  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services >System Services
  • Look for grey, purple, or outline triangle next to feature settings toggle
    • Grey means access in last 24 hours
    • Purple means access very recently (not defined by Apple)
    • Hallow means may get access, probably based on geo-fence locations
